Varaka Vank, as it is known in Armenia, was a complex of church buildings and living quarters for the monks who were highly skilled scribes and illuminators of manuscripts.It was founded in the 11th century by the Armenian king of Vaspurakan. Varaka Vank and its precious library of illuminated manuscripts was destroyed by fire set by the Turks in 1915.
