STAR MARKET
In 1918, Sarkis Mugar purchased a small market in Watertown, Massachusetts, which was the first of what would become one of many Star Markets serving Greater Boston. Sarkis's untimely death four years later gave ownership to his business-minded son Stephen, pictured here in 1937. In the years following World War II, Steve and his cousin John Mugar developed Star Market into the new concept called "the supermarket."
